How an OGL proceeds with a new and unresponsive member is a protocol to be discussed with their Online Trainer.

Some leaders prefer a Meet and Greet/Tech Check on Zoom or some sort of advance communication at a minimum with new members before admitting them to a discussion meeting. OGL may also expect their members to update their Account Profiles with accurate information.

OGL also has the ability to Enable Waiting Rooms on their host functions should they want to ensure a greater level of security for their group.

Finally, the leader has the ability to remove members from their discussion and group, should that become necessary.

To enable the "Waiting Room" security feature:

  • Start your meeting through the BSF Online website https://www.bsfonline.org
  • In your Zoom Meeting, select "Security" and then select "Enable Waiting Room"

The Closed Captioning feature in Zoom allows participants to view subtitles in a variety of languages from the live speech. By default, this feature is enabled for all participants. However, the host of the meeting can disable this feature at any time by clicking on "Show Captions" and selecting "Disable captions." If the host disables closed captioning, the button will disappear from the screen and no participants will be able to view captions.
Here are some reasons why the host might disable closed captioning:
  • The host may be concerned about the accuracy of the captions.
  • The host may be concerned about the privacy of the participants.
  • The host may be concerned about the bandwidth usage of the captions.
If you are a participant in a Zoom meeting and the host has disabled closed captioning, you can try the following:
  • Ask the host to re-enable closed captioning.
  • Use a screen reader or other assistive technology to view the captions.

If you see this message below, be assured the save transcript of the meeting is disabled and is not saved for any purpose.
